Через полтора часа после вылета самолет передал код 7700 (общая тревога), который сменился на код 7500 (угон или захват). Одновременно самолет отклонился от курса и стал резко снижаться: он потерял половину высоты менее чем за минуту. Израиль поднял в воздух истребители, предполагая, что речь может идти о теракте. Но в итоге самолет вернулся на связь и благополучно приземлился в саудовском аэропорту Табук.
